“The winds of time whispered their stories and I wrote them down.”
The winds of change.
When the anniversary came around for Gibraltar’s 1967 Referendum. Jackie wanted us to once more put pen to paper. I said...yes...eventually. No-one says “No!” to Jackie for long. LOL!!! We had learnt a lot from doing ‘LLÉVAME DONDE NACÍ’ and how hard it was to convey these historical stories. The most important thing being to write the script from scratch. This blank canvas allowed us complete flexibility. To help set the scene and move the pace. We decided to make much use of video, projections and music. This was my department. Jackie invited local dancers, poets and writers onto the project. Bringing their own particular artistic energy into the melting pot.
As we’d done before, we split the workload. Jackie handled the major directing of the piece. A mammoth task of ‘Broadway’ proportions considering the size of the cast. Scenes which went from two characters to fifty on stage. I focused on rehearsals with our talented actors Gemma Leppard & Laura Seed who played the ‘Sisters of the wind’. This was our ‘Greek Chorus’ to help bring the audience along as we covered some fifty years of history. Jackie wrote scenes from the every day with her wonderful ear for our Llanito tongue. The tales of woe, hardship, passion and humour. The patio gossip and wishful dreams of this generation. Which graced their lives at this crucial cultural crossroads. The finished production was a joyous celebration.
Several videos were made of and about the show.
To help in telling the story. I created some videos for the show.
