The Children of Catalan Bay
“As Llantios slept in the arms of El ‘Penon’ a cosmic wave washed ashore in Catalan Bay”.
Listen to the show!
A note on the audio quality.
The performances were recorded over two nights with several makes and models of microphones being used. Each recording and sounding different. Each differing in levels and quality of sound. This meant I had to literally equalize all the voices with each other. Since I was already taking it apart. I also took the time to add more sound effects and music. As well as editing down some dialogue to improve pacing and performance. So, this is like the ‘George Lucas’ version. LOL! I do hope you will take the time and listen to these fab performances.

“Thrills, scares and lots of intrigue as some of Gib’s finest voices perform this horror fueled evening.”
Catching up with my friend Damian Broton and handing over White Light theatre’s Hundred pounds donation to ‘Stay Clean’ a vitally important resource in Gibraltar. These were proceeds from our Halloween Show ‘The Children of Catalan Bay’. Another hundred were sent to the GBC open-day. As always, we produce to give back.
‘Stay Clean’ came down and did some outreach on our last performance.
The Children Of Catalan Bay
It had been a year since my mom Margot had passed & I wanted to do something to remember her. It was she who had pointed out that ‘The Cockpit theatre’ was looking for folks to be in their youth programme. From that summer I never looked back and became a ‘Theatre person’. So, as I had done for my father at his passing, we did a Halloween show for my mom. I had always loved John Wyndham’s very British sci-fi story ‘The Midwich Cuckoos’. Which became the chilling ‘Village of the Damned’ movie with those children and their ‘Death stare’. I had for years toyed with the idea that you could transpose the tale set in a remote quiet English Village to our own ancient hamlet of Catalan Bay. Thus was ‘The Children of Catalan Bay born’. Performed in the style of an ‘Old time Radio show’ from the 1940s. Our version of this classic trope of ‘Space Children’ invading is set during the turbulent, stormy years of the 1990s and the rise of the ‘Winston Boys’. When smuggling was king and cigarettes, its currency. Written and directed by myself with additional material by Jackie Villa and the cast. Whose input, observations, and corrections made this script possible. I am happy to report we had a nice, intimate and supportive crowd who came down and saw us. The cast brought their game face and just rocked the night with gusto and energy. Helping to remember my mum’s passing. You healed my heart, thank you all.
