After years of producing many successful shows as well as running a full-time youth theatre under the banner of ‘White Light’. Jackie Villa and I found ourselves at a crossroads. The number of places to rehearse and perform was shrinking and the cost of renting what was left had risen sharply. These factors were pushing our production costs through the roof and making it difficult to keep fees low for our students. We weren’t the only theatre group feeling the squeeze from this reality. So, in an effort to gain more control over our circumstances, a group of us who’d worked in and around each other for years began to meet and talk. The result from which was the creation of Theatre Makers in Jan 2022. A collective of enthusiastic local directors, actors, performers, writers and technicians, people of many talents and art forms pooling their resources, funds, and artistic energy into this new endeavour. Our goal, to bring high quality, affordable theatre and performance art to our community.
