“YOU NEVER KNOW JUST WHAT YOU’LL FIND IN THE ATTIC.”

Backstory

The Nasty Attic Players were born in the autumn of 1988 and its Directors Tom Jones and Andrew Dark produced shows until 2004. This fiercely independent duo created a company of Artists who worked in close collaboration, choosing and producing projects which excited them and their audience. Spinning production values out of apparent thin air and raising monies for charitable causes for 25 years.

A Nasty style

Tom and I had such an easy groove of working together and found along the way an ensemble of lovely, talented actors and production staff. A rotating troupe who would come and go as their ‘Real world’ lives and partners allowed. Who were looking like us, for something to stretch their minds, hearts and talents. I was privileged to have their trust, which allowed me to pick hard, sometimes crazed ideas. Which would challenge the crap out of us. Then we would work out how to solve it and make it dance in our own ‘Nasty’ style.

A strangely named theatrical company.

When we started, a lot of people coming to the shows would ask about the name of our group? It was two things, firstly we were young, brash and thought of ourselves as more like the ‘Les Enfants Terribles’ of theatre troupes. So, we didn’t want the usual ‘thespian’ styled name like the ‘Strolling players’. Secondly, the company was rehearsing at my apartment, which was both an attic and nasty.

Sandy Duncan

This is Sandy Duncan, a plastic statute which became The Nasty Attic Players good luck charm for many years. Named after the American actress who played Peter Pan on Broadway. She made her first appearance in one of our earliest productions, that of ‘Savage in Limbo’. After that, no show felt safe or complete. Until she was either on the set or in the ‘house’ somewhere.
