Here at the Black Cat Theater in celebration of Gay Pride, we present ‘Jeffery’ by Paul Rudnick (I Hate Hamlet & Sister Act). This Dark Talegate production is directed by Jenn Bornstein. This fast-paced Obie award-winning comedy concern’s a handsome young man ‘Jeffrey’ who is unable to find love and has decided to turn to celibacy. But it would seem that the universe has other ideas. Along the way to finding ‘Amour’ he encounters a slue of interesting folks struggling like him with the problems of gay life. So, sit back and enjoy as we celebrate our brothers and sisters with laughter.
One more show before we go!
This hilarious gay play was written in the midst of the AIDS’ explosion. It took on the subjects of both lust & love and how complex those things had become with the arrival of this ‘unwelcome guest’. Turning to celibacy for safety, the hero Jeffrey (a gay actor/waiter) struggles to keep it together in the sexually driven gay world of the 90’s. Along the way to love and pleasure, he has a slue of comical adventures and encounters an amazing array of folks struggling like him with the problems of being gay in this turbulent time. This was another fab production by Black Cat maverick Jenn Bornstein, who assembled a very yummy looking and talented cast. Sad to say, but this was the last show to happen at the Black Cat. My mother’s health and age had gotten to the point where she needed me to join her in Gibraltar, where I was to begin another chapter in my life.
