‘El Tite’
On one of my periodic visits to Gibraltar, when I would live here for a while. I met Joe Gomez, and we struck up a friendship. He ran the ‘Anouilh players’ named after the French dramatist Jean Anouilh. There was an up-and-coming drama festival and Joe told me he was writing and producing a play for it. Since he had to go to England to have an operation. I ended up directing this piece for him. I never saw the finished product as I had to leave to go back to the states. The piece was set at the local health centre and about a character called ‘El Tite’. He was a llantio biker dude and all the others were also caricatures of locals. So, of course, Gibraltarians ate it up.
